Criminal Justice-Cybersecurity, Associate
Program Description
The associate degree in Criminal Justice Cybersecurity is a unique and specialized degree. The degree combines the required knowledge and practical skills of the fields of Criminal Justice and Computer Science. Combined the degree prepares students for a future career as a cybersecurity professional. As such, graduates will build, maintain, and protect systems, networks, programs, and people from cyber-attacks and intrusions.
The degree provides focus on design, integration, protection, and recovery from all types of cyberattacks to modern information systems. Additionally, students will gain the knowledge and practical skills for the investigation and prosecution of offenders of cybercrimes. Students will develop hands-on practical skills along with in depth theoretical knowledge. The students will build effective critical thinking and problems-solving across the curriculum.
- Specialized Knowledge. Graduates from the criminal justice cybersecurity program can define and explain the structures, principles and practices of the field of criminal justice, and computer sciences using the tools, technologies, methods and specialized terms of the discipline. Graduates from the criminal justice cybersecurity program can construct a summative project or critical analysis that draws on current research, scholarship and techniques of the criminal justice and computer science fields. - Broad Integrative Knowledge. Graduates from the criminal justice cybersecurity program can produce an investigative or practical work that draws on the specific theories, tools and methods from both fields of criminal justice and computer science. (ILO: Analysis and Synthesis)
- Intellectual Skills. Graduates from the criminal justice cybersecurity program can elaborate key ethical issues present in cybersecurity problems and articulate the ways in which at least two differing ethical perspectives influences decision making concerning those problems, developing and defending an approach to address the ethical issue productively (ILO: Professional Responsibility). Graduates can construct sustained coherent arguments, narratives and explication of issues, problems or technical issues and processes within criminal justice cybersecurity in writing and at least one other medium to general and technical audiences (ILO: Communication)
- Applied and Collaborate Learning. Graduates from the criminal justice cybersecurity program can prepare and present a project, paper or exhibit linking knowledge or skills acquired in work, community or research activities with knowledge acquired in both fields of criminal justice and computer science, explaining how those elements are structured and employing appropriate citations to demonstrate the relationship of the product to literature in the field (ILO: Communication, Use of Evidence, Analysis and Synthesis).
- Civic and Global Learning. Graduates from the criminal justice cybersecurity program can develop and justify a position on a public issue and relate this position to alternate views held by the public or within the policy environment (ILO: Professional Responsibility and Intercultural Competency)

General Education: All LSSU Associate’s degree candidates must complete the LSSU General Education Requirements.
A minimum of 62 credits (at the 100 level or higher) must be earned for graduation with a cumulative gpa of 2.00 or higher. A gpa of 2.00 or higher is also required in your Major, as well as in your General Education Requirements.
